Motivation for the Symposium

Since it was founded more than 150 years ago, ETH Zurich has not only focused on excellence in research and teaching in engineering and natural sciences, but has also offered teacher training programs in mathematics and natural sciences. These programs go hand in hand with researching STEM learning at all ages. Evidence-based curricula are developed in cooperation between the professorship for learning and instruction and several professorships from other departments. At the ETH Youth Academy, we offer extracurricular activities for children to make transition from school to university easier. In cooperative research projects, experimentally controlled studies are carried out in order to further optimize STEM training. The aim of the Latsis Symposium is to share our work with the work of highly recognized international colleagues who are also striving to improve STEM learning.
